The city is only a 40 minute car drive from the town Ankarana, which features beautiful and enchanting caves. There are three sets of caves, the Grotte Squelette, Grotte Cathèdral and the Grotte d’Andrafiabe, that would leave anyone in wonderment. As well as the caves there is the breathtaking canyon, Canyon d’Andohalambo that is only accessible for half the year, from June to December.
Ankarana is also widely known for the Ankarana Reserve which was created in 1956 and compromises of vegetated plateau as well as Jurassic limestone. The erosion from increased rainfall is the main reason for all the caves and rock chasms.
